Susie was about to walk out the backdoor when she heard grandma call out that Daniel was there to see her. She wished there was a mirror on the way to the living room so she could check her hair and makeup.
As she walked into the room, Daniel looked at her and smiled. She casually smiled back.
“Hey Susie, I thought I would stop by and see how you are doing. It’s been a rough month for you. You know I’m here for you if you need me”.
With her best fake smile she replied, “Yes I know”. “Thank you. I’m doing ok, I guess”.
Before she could pull away, Daniel reached out and hugged her tightly against him. She felt herself stiffen. He let her go and quickly stuffed his hands in his pockets.
When she backed up, she could tell that he was embarrassed by her reaction but thankfully, he didn’t say anything. She felt a rush of guilt sweep over her. She didn’t know what to say next.
Cassie broke the tension as she came running into the house yelling, “I thought you were going to play with me”.
She stopped just inside the door as she spotted Daniel. “Oh, hey I didn’t know you were here”. Susie, are you going to push me on the swing”?
Susie started to respond when Daniel suggested that he take them to the park.
“Would you like that Cassie”, he asked as he leaned down and grinned at her.
“Can we go Susie”?
How could she possible say no? She could see the deep sadness in her face and understood the aching need to do something, anything.
“Yes of course”, she nodded.
When they arrived at the park, Cassie bolted off to the playground leaving them alone. Feeling uneasy, she looked around for someone she knew.
“I think I see Laurel over there. I should go speak to her”.
A few minutes later Daniel joined them. She was surprised to learn that they had so many things in common.
“I didn’t know that you enjoyed working on things or that you played chess, Daniel”, Susie said.
“I’ve been playing chess since I was just a child. My mom got me interested and we still play together sometimes when I visit. Why, do you play”?
“Yes, actually, I do but I’m not very good”.
“Well we could play now”; he motioned toward the chess table.
“Sure, that will be fun”.
They talked as they played and Susie began to feel more at ease. In the back of her mind, she couldn’t help but feel bad about the way she had acted.
Dusk fell upon the park catching her attention when the lights flipped on.
“I had better head home, Cassie has school tomorrow and I have to work”.
“Ok I’ll get the car and meet you two out front”.
Back at the house, she stopped on the porch, letting Cassie go inside, and took Daniel by the hand.
“I enjoyed this evening. Thank you for taking us”.
He put his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
“I’m glad”, he replied as he let her go.
“Now can I ask you to have dinner with me Saturday night”?
“I think so, she said smiling”.
“Great, I’ll pick you up at seven”.
“Ok”, she said and walked inside. She stood at the front door and watched until he drove away wondering what she was getting herself into.
The weeks passed. She stayed busy with work and was promoted to shift leader. She had gone out with Daniel every Saturday night since that evening in the park. She enjoyed his company and felt he was a good friend.
She looked at her phone to see that it was Daniel calling.
“Hello”, she answered.
“Would you like to come over to my place”, he asked?
“Sure, I can be there in about an hour”.
“Ok see you then”.
She knocked at the door and Daniel shouted for her to come on in.
She walked in taking note of the surroundings. It was a nice place to be a mobile home, much nicer than her house.
Daniel walked over and hugged her.
“You want to sit down”, he asked as he motioned toward the sofa.
She promptly made her way over and sat down
He sat on the other end and switched on the TV.
“There’s a good movie coming on if you want to watch it”, he said. “On the other hand, we could just listen to music. It’s up to you”.
She shrugged her shoulders and said, “We can watch the movie”.
“Ok the movie it is”.
After some time had passed, he slid over close to her and slipped his arm around her.
She looked over at him.
Her heart was racing as he stroked her cheek, and then leaned in to kiss her.
He led her to the bedroom where they quickly undressed. She gazed into his eyes. She could feel the passion rise inside, consuming her every thought.
“I have waited so long for this moment”; he said softly before he picked her up and laid her on the bed.
“What was that”, she asked when she heard what sounded like a car door shutting?
“Oh no, go get dressed”, he exclaimed
She heard the front door shut.
Hey man, I made it early. I hope you don’t mind.
Her eyes were glued to the door as she heard footsteps coming toward it.
They both dove under the sheets as the bedroom door opened.
Her breathe was caught in her throat, the blood rushed to her head and pounded in her ears.
James stood just inside the bedroom. His stare cut right through her making her hair stand on end.
She leapt from the bed, grabbed her clothes, and ran to the bathroom.
She could hear their voices rise as she was getting dressed.
By the time she opened the door James was shouting angrily at Daniel.
“Why would you even consider sleeping with Susie”?
Daniel tried to defend himself but James yelled back at him, “You were my best friend”.
She felt the blood boil up inside her.
Without warning, she rushed over and slapped him.
“How dare you”, she screamed.
“After what you put me through you have no right”.
“This has nothing to do with you”, he barked back at her.
“Oh yeah, then why are you mad at Daniel. You just can’t stand the thought of me being happy”.
“That’s not true, he exclaimed. I still care about you”.
She started to cry and ran from the room.
“Wait Susie”, he called after her.
He stopped her as she was walking to her car.
“Please let’s talk about this”, he pleaded.
“I have nothing to say to you James”, she replied as she got in her car.

“Susie, Susie, can you hear me”, Daniel asked.
“Hmmm, Daniel what happened”?
“You fainted. Are you all right”?
She stood up, shook her head no, and started crying.
“What is wrong? Please tell me”
“My Aunt Sherry”…sniff, whah ahhh ahhh, sniff sniff
Daniel reached out and she fell onto his shoulder.
He let her cry.
Finally, she was able to pull herself together.
“You should sit down”, Daniel said.
She shook her head in agreement and walked inside.
“Can you tell me now”, Daniel asked once they were seated on the sofa.
She shook her head yes.
“Sherry and the baby”…
She started crying again.
When she was able to speak, she said, “While she was giving birth they didn’t make it”.
“Oh Susie, I’m so sorry. Is there anything I can do”?
“No, thank you Daniel”.
“Well can I get you anything, something to drink maybe”?
“Sure”, she said as she shook her head.
She heard her grandparents pull into the driveway just as Daniel came back in with a glass of water.
The days passed in a blur. The house was always full of family and friends offering their condolences and bringing food.
Grandma came in and woke her up the morning of the funeral. In her waking moments she had forgot what happened until she began to open her eyes and felt that they were swollen.
She got up, showered and slipped into the black dress that she had pulled from the closet the night before. She’d skip breakfast, she didn’t feel like eating.
They were the first to arrive at the church. They had done a wonderful job setting up and even had pictures of Sherry on a nearby table.
People began to fill the pews as the family paid their last respects. It was a very sad time indeed.
Grandma took it especially hard. Sherry was her last remaining child. If only she hadn’t decided to have a child so late in life she might still be with us, she lamented.
Bill was so upset that he ran of out the church leaving stunned looks on faces.
After the funeral grandma came to her.
“Susie, I need to talk to you”, she said.
“Your Uncle Bill is taking this hard. He’s asked if we’d be willing to keep Cassie for awhile”.
“I think that would be great”, Susie said.
“Yes, I agree. That child needs plenty of attention now. The only problem is we don’t have the money to support another mouth. I don’t know what to do, Susie”.
“I could get a job”, Susie said.
“No, you can’t do that, you are going to college”, grandma insisted.
“It won’t be forever grandma. I can start next year. Cassie needs us right now”.
“All right, well let’s see what you grandpa has to say about it”, she agreed.
Grandpa agreed that she could wait one year to start college.
The next day she went out to search for a job.
She tried the Day Spa first. They weren’t looking for anyone.
She went next door to the library. They had no openings.
Feeling a bit frustrated, she stopped by the grocery store. They offered her a part-time job as a cashier. She immediately accepted.
She had to adjust her speed several times on the way home. She was so excited. She could hardly wait to tell everyone the news.
She jumped out of the vehicle and raced toward the house screaming, “I got a job, I got a job”!
Grandma laughed as she hugged her.
“Call Uncle Bill and tell him to bring Cassie now”, she squealed.
“All right child calm down”, grandma said as she headed to the phone.
Susie stood anxiously while she talked to Bill.
When she hung up she said, “He’ll be over as soon as they get her things packed”.
Susie was the first to welcome Cassie.
Grandma got busy putting her things away. As she put the last of it away, she heard a knock at the door. Whom could that be she thought?
Looking over at the door, she saw it was Daniel. She went to let him in as she yelled, “Susie, Daniel is here”.
“Ok, I’ll be right there”, she yelled back.

It’s been several weeks now since Susie’s breakup with James and she is feeling better and maybe a bit devilish. She’s gotten a hair cut and bought a sexy new dress.
She hurried to get dressed. She and Gail were heading to the Juice Bar for a night on the town.
As soon as they get there she looks around and spots a hot guy. She turns to Gail and gives her the look before she goes over to introduce herself.
She finds out his name is Andy. After getting to know each other a little bit she asks him if he’d dance with her.
After awhile she starts to flirt. Andy is pretty receptive. He leans in to kiss her but she stops dead in her tracks as she sees James best friend walk in.
She feels her face flush as he starts to walk towards her. Why in the world should I feel embarrassed she thinks? After all I’m single and free to do what I want with whomever I want. She makes a mental note to pull herself together.
She waves to him and puts on her best smile. "Hi Daniel, How are you"?
"Oh, I’m doing ok. How about you Susie”, he replies.
"Yes, I’m fine".
Daniel this is Andy, motioning towards him.
Daniel nods in Andy’s direction. Turning back to Susie he says, “I hope there’s no hard feelings between us. I think the world of you Susie and I’m sorry things didn’t work out between you and James. Have you heard from him”?
Feeling awkward she replies, “No there aren’t hard feelings and no I haven’t heard from him”.
“Yeah I haven’t either. I guess he must be busy with his new job”, he says. Hey would you care to dance? I just got here and well I don’t see anyone I know.
She nods and reluctantly says, “Sure”. What she really wanted was to continue to talk to Andy.
Looking back at Andy she mouths sorry as Daniel is pulling her to the dance floor. He gives her a weak smile before she turns away.
A few minutes later she looks over to see Andy going out the door. Oh no she thought and before she even realized it she was running after him.
After pushing her way through the crowd she emerged only to see his cab speeding away.
She shivered from the cool night air as she turned to go back inside.
Looking around she spotted Gail and made her way over to her. “Can you believe that”, she said. “Things were just heating up with that hot guy when Daniel of all people walks up. I’m so mad”.
“Who, are you talking about James best friend”, Gail asked.
“Oh he’s pretty hot too you know. What did he want”?
“Nothing really,he basically just ruined my night that’s all”!
“I’m sorry, do you want to leave”, Gail asked?
“No, you can stay. I don’t want to ruin your night as well. I do think I’ll call it a night though”.
“Well ok, if you’re sure”.
Yes, I’m sure she replied as she gave her a hug. I’ll call you tomorrow ok.
Early the next morning she awoke to the sun beaming across her bed. It was the first time she had noticed the beauty of morning since her breakup. She sat up and stretched for a moment while watching the sunlight dance across the bed. Hmm, what can I do today she thought.
Just then grandma came in. She was practically breathless.
“What is it grandma”, she asked?
“Your aunt Sherry is in labor, the baby should be here anytime. We are going to the hospital. Do you want to go”?
“No, you know I hate hospitals grandma”. Hospitals reminded her of death ever since she had lost her parents in a car accident.
“Alright sweetie, I’ll call you when the baby is born”.
“Please do and tell Aunt Sherry and Uncle Bill that I love them. Where is Cassie”?
“Oh they left her with the neighbors”.
“Alright then, you better hurry grandma”.
A while later after she had eaten breakfast and soaked in the tub she decided to relax with a good mystery novel to try to get her mind off the anticipation. Just as she stretched out on her bed, the phone rang. She was sure it was grandma calling to say the baby’s here. When she answered, she was shocked to hear Daniel’s voice. He asked if he could stop by. Sure, she said but was thinking why in the world.
Oh great she thought when she hung up. She decided to make a sweep of the house to see if anything was out of order. Her mind was racing between thoughts of Sherry and what Daniel could possibly want. As she walked by her grandparent’s bed she noticed that it hadn’t been made, grandma must have been so excited that she forgot. She had just finished making it when the doorbell rang. She felt her muscles tense and her heart pounding in her throat.
She quickly decided that she would only talk to him outside. As she walked onto the porch, she smiled and said hello as pleasantly as she could.
“Hey Susie, what are you up to today”, he asked.
“At the moment I’m waiting to hear something about my Aunt Sherry. She is in labor”.
“Oh, I see”, he said.
After a long silence he said, “You left so fast last night I didn’t have a chance to talk to you”.
“Oh”, she said a little embarrassed.
“Yeah I’ve wanted to talk to you for awhile now but I didn’t think the time was right with …well you know”.
“Really”, she said.
“Yes, I have”.
He looked down at his shoes and shuffled nervously for a minute before he spoke again. “Well yeah, I don’t know if you ever noticed but I really like you Susie. I have since the moment I met you. I’d really like it if you’d let me take you out sometime”.
She felt the heat rising in her cheeks as she stuttered, “Ah oh oh really ok. I don’t know what to say Daniel”.” I’m flattered, it’s just so soon. I don’t know”.
“I understand Susie”.
He reached out to take her hand but she pulled away.
“I know you were hurt but I’d really like a chance”.
Just then her phone rang; she grabbed it, thankful for being saved.
“What no no that can’t be”, she heard herself saying. The world seemed to stand still as if time had stopped. She couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe. All she could think is that she needed to sit down.
That’s the last thing she remembers before she fainted.

This is the first story I've ever written so don't be too hard on me. I can say that I'm learning as I go.
I'm afraid you'll have to read chapter one on the Sims site. I think I deleted those screenshots.
With Susie now a teen, she spent a lot of time with her best friend Gail. They shared everything. Of course it was mostly about boys.
They talked on the phone everyday after school for hours.
And they gossiped endlessly when they were together. Oh those girls had so much in common. They were practically inseparable.
One day while she was out playing in the yard, a boy that she had never seen drove by and waved. Everyday for a week he drove by and waved and soon she was waving back.
Then one day he stopped. He was handsome with blonde hair and the bluest eyes she had ever seen. As he walked up to her she just stood there frozen. She didn't know what to say. He introduced himself as James. He wanted to know if she wanted to go out sometime. She said, "Yes of course".
She was thrilled and could hardly believe it. She had to tell Gail the news. She was excited for her.
Grandpa was not happy at all. He didn't think she was old enough to date but he reluctantly agreed after much begging and pleading on her part.
It seemed like months before James finally picked her up but it was just a few days.
He took her to dinner at a little café downtown. She was so nervous she barely ate anything.
They then went to the theater to see a horror movie. He reached over and held her hand after she jumped.
When he brought her home that night he leaned down to give her a kiss. Ah her first kiss. She was bitten by the love bug right then and there. He told her he'd had a wonderful time and would call her the next day.
She could barely sleep that night. In fact she lay there dreaming of their future together and what it would be like.
She dreamed about the house and kids they would have.
She could just imagine James coming home after a long day at work. They'd sit down to a nice dinner that she'd prepared.
After dinner James would sit in the living room and catch up on the news while she'd sit across from him listening to him tell her what had happened. Finally she dozed off to sleep.
As the weeks went by they began to talk on the phone every night after James got home from his part-time job.
They continued to see each other on the weekends. James was such a gentleman and took her to the nicest places. Graduation came and they had a big party to celebrate. Susie had now become a young woman. She dreamed of the day he would ask her to marry him.
One night while they were out together he stopped and looked in her eyes. Her heart skipped a beat. Was he going to propose?
He leaned over and whispered in her ear that he loved her. He wanted to be the first man that she slept with.
Susie was nervous and told him that she would think about it.
Several days later she got in a disagreement with grandpa about James. He thought that he was a lazy no good for nothing mooch. Of course, she thought he was everything she had ever dreamed of. She was so mad she stormed out of the house.
She drove straight to James's house and as soon as he opened the door she threw herself in his arms and kissed him. She whispered that she was ready.
He carried her to the bedroom.
He lit candles and put on their favorite music. He took her by the hand and led her to the bed.
She was scared and but still just mad enough that she was determined. Soon she forgot everything as he took her in his arms and kissed her deeply.
Afterwards they lay in the bed cuddling and talking. She was sure now that he would soon ask her to marry him. Night came and Susie reluctantly went home. She was still mad at grandpa and now she knew he had no idea what he was talking about.
She called Gail and told her what had happened. Gail was excited for her but worried too. She hoped that she wasn't pregnant.
Susie told her that it didn't matter because they were in love and she was sure that they would get married.
A few days later James stopped by unexpectedly. Susie ran out to meet him. He asked her to go riding with him because he had something he needed to tell her.
As they rode around he told her that he had been offered a job out of town. It was a great opportunity for him, he said.
When they arrived back at Susie's he just sat there for the longest time before he said anything. Thoughts were racing through her mind. Is he going to ask me now she thought? Finally he spoke. He said that he was going to take the job and that he'd be moving away and couldn't see her anymore.
She didn't know what to say. She was suddenly numb. Everything started to spin and she thought she was going to pass out. He asked her if she was alright and she mumbled yes.
He told her goodbye.
She went straight to her room. She cried so hard. How could this happen?
She crawled in the bed where she stayed for days. She didn't eat. She just wanted to die.
Then on the third day she woke up feeling sick. She was sure that she was pregnant. She just knew that if she was James would take her back.
She called and made an appointment with the doctor. Yes they could see her today. She hurried to the hospital with renewed hope. Much to her disappointment she found out that she was not pregnant but instead she had mono. The doctor informed her that she'd have to get in touch with James to tell him because he was at risk also. Even though it wasn't what she had hoped for she was excited at the chance to talk to James. As soon as she walked out of the hospital she grabbed her phone and called him. His father answered the phone and said, "yes he was still here".
When James picked up she asked him how he was. He seemed distant, like he didn't want to talk. Picking up on that she cut to the reason for the call. He was furious. He told her that she couldn't have gotten it from him. She must have got it from someone else.
She was distraught. She didn't understand how he could change so suddenly. Just a week ago they were curled up together in his bed. She went home and straight to bed. Days passed.
Gail came over to try to cheer her up. She begged her to get ready and go out. Susie finally agreed even though she didn't feel like it.
They took a long walk and talked. Gail told her that she had to do something to get her mind off of James. He obviously was a jerk for treating her the way he did. She knew she was right. He had hurt her so bad. Her heart ached but she had to move on.
